PHNOM PENH

Universally known as the Pearl of Asia, for its numerous monuments and the millenary culture, Phnom Penh has a very restless history. Its origins are very ancient, though it is only since its election as Cambodia capital city (circa 1409) that it had a real urban and demographic development. During the centuries, the town became a French political centre, then, in 1975, it suffered terrible devastating attacks on the part of the Red Khmer, led by the cruel Pol Pot, who ordered the destruction of many temples and villages. Nowadays Cambodia capital city still retains much of its colonial charm in the remaining buildings, which are carefully kept and restored

ANGKOR

Angkor temples constitute, without the slightest doubt, one of the architectonic wonders of the world. Built along six centuries, when Khmer civilization was at its top, the almost hundred temples of Angkor are the ruins of a gorgeous administrative and religious centre, with the majority of the buildings built in wood, and therefore lost along the centuries. Unmissable is the visit to the complex, rich of more than five thousand statues, wonderful bas-reliefs, hundreds of steles with untouched inscriptions of Angkor Wat and to the immense fortified area of Angkor Thom.
